Shibam

Food + Drink · Yemeni Community-sourced, unverified
📍 4807 N Elston Ave, Chicago, IL

Shibam serves one of Chicago's few dedicated Yemeni menus, built around the kind of shareable meat platters the cuisine is known for — lamb, chicken, and fish served over rice, all prepared under halal certification.

$$

The restaurant previously operated under the name Salah & Said before rebranding, a detail worth knowing if an older review or a regular mentions it by the earlier name. A handful of Western menu options sit alongside the Yemeni core, a nod to a broader lunch crowd beyond the city's small but growing Yemeni community.

Yemeni food is still genuinely rare in Chicago — as recently as 2019, one food writer counted only three Yemeni restaurants in the entire city — which makes a steady, still-operating option like this one worth seeking out rather than stumbling into.
