Red Hot Ranch traces back to 2005, when Barry Nemerow and Jeff Greenfield opened 35th Street Red Hots near the White Sox's ballpark in Bridgeport before expanding to this Logan Square/Bucktown stand.

The burger, fries, and shrimp combo is an unusual pairing that's kept this counter a reliable stop for years.

The smashburger came later — inspired by a trip to In-N-Out, they built the RHR burger with crispy caramelized beef, sport peppers, and their own special sauce in 2013, and it's been a fixture on Chicago best-burger lists ever since.

It's cash-only, with a handful of picnic tables outside a tiny counter.
