Pierogi Kitchen treats the pierogi as a format worth reinventing, not just a tradition to preserve: co-owners Art Wnorowski and Gosia Pieniazek opened this Wicker Park spot on New Year's Day 2024 using homemade dough from a family recipe passed down through generations, then built a menu that pushes well past classic potato-and-cheese — smoked brisket, duck confit and apples, spicy pork shoulder, sauerkraut and oyster mushroom, even a fried PB&J on the sweet side.

It earned the recognition to match, winning Best Pierogi in the Chicago Reader's 2025 Best of Chicago poll.

Full platters built around house-smoked Polish kielbasa, pork shank, whole trout, and duck leg confit give the menu real range beyond the dumplings themselves, in a space that only took over from a barbecue joint a couple years back.
