Peckish Pig is the Howard Street restaurant and brewery that turned the Evanston-Chicago border into a destination instead of a place you pass through on the Red Line.

It sits a short walk from the Howard stop, brews beer in house, and runs the kind of all-purpose neighborhood menu that works for a date, a family dinner or a solo pint at the bar. The table snacks set the tone: bacon-wrapped dates with Spanish chorizo, salted soft pretzels with beer cheese, whipped goat cheese with honeycomb and a European charcuterie board. Mains swing wide, from a double grass-fed burger with blue cheese and fig mayo and a cumin-fried lamb burger to red Thai curry mussels, a tonkatsu cutlet, trout almondine over Kerrygold mash and a short rib mac and cheese built on smoked Gouda.

The real reason locals keep coming back is the weekly calendar. Weekday happy hour from 4:30 to 6 brings $5 beers, $6 wines and $7 cocktails at the bar, Taco Tuesday is three tacos and a margarita or tequila shot for $20, Triple B Wednesday is a draft beer, any house burger and a bourbon shot for $20, kids under 10 eat free Tuesday through Thursday with an adult entrée, and Saturday brunch means $35 bottomless mimosas with a free bag of doughnuts. Specials are dine-in only, and brunch runs weekends from 10:30am.
