Osito's Tap

Little Village · Cocktails/Mexican Spirits Community-sourced, unverified
📍 2553 S Ridgeway Ave, Chicago, IL 60623

Osito's Tap opened in November 2019 as the first new bar Little Village had seen in decades, which is a genuinely unusual thing for a Chicago neighborhood this size to be able to say.

$$
A two-door speakeasy entrance (through the family liquor store by day, a hidden hallway by night) leading to hundreds of Mexican mezcals and tequilas plus homemade tepache — the first new bar Little Village had seen in decades when it opened in 2019.

Owner Mike Moreno Jr. grew up working as a stockboy at his family's liquor store, Moreno's Liquors, and built the bar directly behind it — during the day you walk in through the liquor shop itself, and at night the real entrance switches to a narrow hallway off Ridgeway Avenue, the kind of two-door setup that makes a bar feel like a discovery rather than just another listing. The spirits program backs up the speakeasy framing: hundreds of Mexican-made mezcals and tequilas, a dozen drafts including Modelo and local craft beer, and homemade tepache alongside Mexican-leaning twists on classic cocktails. It's a genuine family project built on top of a business that's presumably been serving the neighborhood for a lot longer than the bar has, which gives it a different kind of legitimacy than a bar that just opened cold in a neighborhood it has no history in.

Hours run Wednesday through Sunday only, with the bar staying open later than the kitchen most nights — useful to know if you're planning dinner and drinks as one trip rather than two. No happy hour or current special pricing turned up on the bar's own site, which lists its hours and socials plainly but doesn't advertise a discount — the draw here is clearly the spirits selection and the story behind the room, not a deal.
