Nine Bar sits behind Moon Palace Express, the Chinatown restaurant Lily Wang's parents — Zhong Pei ('Jones') and Jennifer Wang — have run since 1995.

The crab rangoons pair with spirit-forward martinis in a bar you'd never find unless someone told you it was inside a Chinese takeout spot.

Wang and co-owner Joe Briglio (previously of Blind Barber) tested the idea first in 2019 with a Year-of-the-Pig pop-up bar at her parents' restaurant, then ran a to-go cocktail-and-food pop-up called Nine Bar Market inspired by Japanese konbini convenience stores, before opening the real speakeasy-style bar in summer 2022 — Chinatown's first dedicated cocktail bar. Her parents eventually scaled Moon Palace back to takeout-only up front specifically to give Nine Bar more room in back. The vaporwave-neon room serves Asian-inspired cocktails (an Old Fashioned built on Chinese five-spice among them) alongside zesty mapo fries and a tonkatsu pork cutlet sandwich.

No reservations. Closed Tuesdays; every other night runs 5PM to midnight or 1AM.
