New Line Tavern runs a Southern Creole and smokehouse menu — gumbo, Louisiana red beans and rice, smoked jerk wings, honey-glazed ribs, po'boys — out of the ground floor of the Powerhouse Building, a Beaux Arts Chicago landmark that once powered the Chicago & Northwestern Railway, at the corner of Lake and Clinton right off the Green Line's Clinton stop. $4 Goose Island beers and $8 signature cocktails on Fridays, inside a building doing a very different job than the one it was built for.
