The reason to come is the prepared food. WTTW summed up the hot bar as a virtual Polish buffet, and that's about right: rotating trays of stews, cutlets, cabbage rolls and sides you'd otherwise only get at somebody's grandmother's table, plus a Chef's Corner of freshly made dishes. The pierogi are the headline — fresh and frozen, in what WTTW called every imaginable filling — and the bakery, deli counter and a dairy case stacked with European butters make it a full grocery run rather than just lunch.
Fridays bring fried fish to the hot bar, and the store publishes weekly specials through its newsletter rather than a fixed discount, so the deal changes week to week. Catering trays and full holiday menus are a big part of the business, too, if you're feeding a crowd. Hours run 8am to 9pm Monday through Saturday and 8am to 6pm Sunday.
