Founder John Nicolaides named Molly's Cupcakes after his third-grade teacher, Miss Molly, who used to bake cupcakes for her students' birthdays — the shop was profitable within its first four months and went on to win the first-ever season of Cupcake Wars in 2009 with a peach cobbler flavor.
