The Chinatown flagship gets the press, but MingHin's Rolling Meadows outpost on Golf Road has one thing the original doesn't: a happy hour.

The BBQ sampler and black bean clams are the orders regulars default to, and the same Hong Kong-style dim sum standard as the Chinatown flagship holds up all the way out in the suburbs.

Weekdays from 2:30 to 5PM (holidays excluded), dine-in orders are 20% off, which turns a late-lunch dim sum run into one of the better deals in the northwest suburbs. Chinatown is the one MingHin location that skips it. The dim sum menu runs all day on the same Cantonese playbook: MingHin's shrimp dumplings and xiaolongbao at $7.75, siu mai and baked BBQ pork buns at $7.25, the steamed salted egg yolk bun, and puffy egg custard tarts to close. Unlike a lot of suburban dim sum, the dinner menu goes deep too.

The BBQ section has roast pork belly, BBQ duck, Beijing duck and Minghin's BBQ Combination Platter ($27.95), and the live seafood list runs from clam with black bean sauce ($20.95) to Hong Kong-style Dungeness crab and a three-course king crab. Bigger groups can lean on the family set menus, which run from $98 to $428. The practical stuff: it opens at 11AM on weekdays and 10AM on weekends, there's a free private lot (no circling the block, unlike Chinatown), and reservations go through MingHin's website.
