Sixteen years on, this Chinatown Square flagship anchors a five-restaurant group (Lakeshore East, Streeterville, Naperville and Rolling Meadows are the others), and it bills itself as a five-time Michelin Guide honoree after a string of Bib Gourmand nods in the late 2010s. The headline is simple: dim sum all day, every day of the year, 9AM to midnight on weekdays and from 8AM on weekends. There are no carts. You order on an iPad, which The Infatuation rightly warned makes it very easy to lose track of what's already in your cart. Most steamers land between $6.75 and $7.25: siu mai, MingHin's shrimp dumplings, xiaolongbao, sticky rice in lotus leaf, baked BBQ pork buns and a newer steamed salted egg yolk bun.
Finish with the puffy egg custard tart. For something off the roasting side, the Macau-style crispy pork belly and the roast duck run $9.95 a plate. Logistics: reservations go through the restaurant's website and aren't required, but they're worth it for a birthday or a weekend group. Street parking tightens on weekends; the North and South Chinatown lots charge $2 for up to three hours with MingHin validation. One catch worth knowing: the group's weekday 20%-off happy hour (2:30-5PM) runs at every location except this one.
