Maria's Packaged Goods & Community Bar started life as Kaplan's Liquors, founded in 1939; Maria Marszewski bought it around 1986-1987 after a career path that ran from Busan, South Korea to Chicago real estate, and the bar has carried her name ever since.

Her sons Ed and Mike eventually took it over, rebuilt it into the current bar/package-store/art-gallery hybrid, and built out a genuinely well-regarded craft beer list. Ed also runs the Co-Prosperity Sphere art space next door and has become a real fixture of Bridgeport's arts scene — the same bar where he first dreamed up Marz Community Brewing (now its own Bridgeport institution) back in 2013.

Polish/Korean fusion bar food and a dog-friendly patio round out the pitch; weekday happy hour runs $4 specials.
