La Shuk Street Food

Super GemThe Loop · Israeli/Middle Eastern Community-sourced, unverified
📍 125 S Clark St (Sterling Food Hall), Chicago, IL 60603

La Shuk Street Food started as a farmer's-market stand in Wicker Park before founder Yosi Alhadif — Israeli-born, classically trained at Chicago's French Pastry School — moved it into a permanent food hall counter, and the Tel Aviv-inspired menu has held up through the transition.

$
Fresh-made hummus, crisp falafel, and in-house pita from a Tel Aviv-rooted stall that survived its food hall's full 2024 rebrand (Revival to Sterling) — and still earned a former Chicago Tribune critic's top-10-bites-of-the-year nod.

Hummus gets made fresh rather than scooped from a tub, falafel comes crisp rather than dense, and the pita is baked in-house — the kind of from-scratch commitment that a counter-service food hall stall doesn't strictly need to bother with but clearly does here anyway. A former Chicago Tribune dining critic specifically named the falafel and hummus among his picks from an entire year eating through the Loop, even while noting a different Egyptian-inflected spot (Oasis Cafe) for comparison — a sign La Shuk's version has a genuine identity of its own, not just a generic hummus plate.

The stall has outlasted one entire food hall closure already: this exact address operated as Revival Food Hall for eight years before a 2024 ownership change rebranded it Sterling Food Hall, and La Shuk made the transition intact. That's a real survival story for a counter-service concept, not every vendor makes that cut.
