The menu reads like a tour of a home cook's freezer: carne asada, lomo, fish, shrimp, homemade chorizo, poblano rajas, and al pastor, with all the meat butchered in-house rather than bought pre-cut. The guacamole gets an odd, memorable touch -- a scattering of dried cranberries -- and comes with chips fried fresh rather than out of a bag. That combination of home-style cooking and real technique earned L'Patron a 5th-place national ranking from The Daily Meal for best burrito in the country, and the restaurant has picked up coverage from Chicago Reader, Univision Chicago, Check Please, ABC7, Eater Chicago, DNAinfo, and CBS Chicago over the years.
