The Vrettos family bought it in the late 1980s, and Steve Vrettos ran it until his death, when it passed to his daughter Barbara — the same family throughline that got Jeff's inducted into the Vienna Beef Hot Dog Hall of Fame in April 2016. The Chicago-style dog here is the real all-the-way version, but the stand's actual flex is the Francheezy: a hot dog split and stuffed with cheese, wrapped in bacon, and deep-fried until the casing snaps — a standing order for regulars, not a gimmick.
WGN's "Chicago's Best" singled out the chili dog specifically, and the thin-cut fries get mentioned almost as often as the dogs. There's no happy hour here — it's a counter and a few stools, not a bar — but at a few dollars a main, it's about as close to old-Chicago hot dog pricing as the neighborhood still has.
