Imperial Restaurant

Iconic/NotableChinatown · Cantonese/Dim Sum Community-sourced, unverified
📍 2100 S Archer Ave, Chicago, IL 60616

Imperial Restaurant occupies the same ornate second-floor banquet hall in Chinatown Square that opened years ago as Cai -- a venture between chef Xi Xin Lin, who cut his teeth on dim sum in Hong Kong and Toronto, and business partner John Wong -- and locals still call it by that old name out of habit.

$$
The roasted duck is the classic order, and the xiaolongbao alongside it round out a menu built around real Chinatown technique.

The Infatuation's own review notes the rebrand changed nothing else: same ornate room, same banquet-hall scale that makes it a go-to for Chinese wedding parties. WTTW's Check Please panel rated it a step above the city's other dim sum rooms, and the consensus order hasn't moved -- taro buns, fried sticky rice dumplings loaded with extra chili oil, shrimp crepe, siu mai, har gow, and steamed BBQ pork buns, with some larger dishes priced per-person at "extra large" portion tiers for bigger tables.

It's open every day, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., with carts and trays moving dim sum style rather than a strict a la carte ticket system.
