Tangled Roots Brewing partnered with the Hangar One Foundation to build the concept directly around the site's real history: Naval Air Station Glenview was commissioned as Curtiss Field in 1929, once housed the largest hangar built up to that point, and became the Navy's largest primary pilot training facility during World War II before closing in 1995; the original Hangar One is now on the National Register of Historic Places. That history shows up everywhere in the decor -- pilot helmets, propeller-shaped ceiling fans, and photos tracing the history of flight fill the glass-atrium taproom alongside the usual booths and bar seating.
The beer itself is mostly brewed at Tangled Roots' original location in Ottawa, Illinois, using hops and barley grown on the brewery's own farm. Reviewers call out the pimento dip and the El Fuego burger as standouts, and the enclosed patio extends the airplane theming outdoors.
