Brewpoint began in September 2014 when founder Melissa Villanueva, browsing Craigslist for an espresso machine, found a whole coffee shop for sale instead and opened the first cafe with her husband Angelo. It has grown into a woman-owned, AAPI-owned Elmhurst company with several cafes, its own roastery, an event space and a book, Starting and Running a Coffee Shop, with a mission of creative drinks and cafes that strengthen the community. The cocktail list leans into the coffee: an espresso martini, a matchatini, a cold brew Negroni, a chai white Russian and an Earl Grey bergamot Bee's Knees, mostly $13, alongside classics, local beer, wine and non-alcoholic mocktails.
Happy hour takes 20 percent off the cocktail menu, 4 to 6pm Saturday through Thursday and 2 to 5pm on Fridays. It's open from 7am daily, until 8pm Sunday through Wednesday and 9pm Thursday through Saturday. Beer runs from Miller High Life to a bourbon-barrel Dragon's Milk stout, wines come by the glass or bottle, and the non-alcoholic side includes a matcha mocktini and a cherry espresso soda sour, so the whole table is covered.
