It opened on July 5, 1993, just off Damen Avenue, and later moved to its current home on Milwaukee Avenue, a short walk from the Damen Blue Line, with the same simple idea: fresh, seasonal breakfast and brunch food made in a slightly unexpected way. The draw is the rotating lineup of pancakes and French toast, which changes with the seasons. Right now that means pumpkin pancakes with a brown sugar cinnamon crunch swirl and maple whipped cream, white chocolate and caramel pretzel pancakes, pineapple pandan upside-down pancakes with a vanilla anglaise, mini ube pancakes with blueberry coulis, churro pancakes and a pear and apple challah French toast, plus gluten-free buckwheat and rice flour hotcakes.
The savory side holds up too, and a few originals from the first year are still on the menu: the breakfast burrito with guacamole and pepper jack, the croissant sandwich and the vegetarian croissant sandwich. Beyond those, there's a turkey sausage burrito, a vegan chorizo burrito, an Italian breakfast sandwich on tomato focaccia, avocado toast and a beef tenderloin omelette, and weekday lunch starts at 11am. It's open for breakfast and lunch weekdays from 8:30am and for weekend brunch from 9am, closing at 2pm daily.
