The shop dates to 1977 and ran as a one-location local favorite until Art and Karen Wicklein, high school sweethearts and Antioch natives who left corporate jobs in engineering and marketing, bought it in 2008. Their whole pitch was to be the crust of the community, sponsoring schools, churches and teams, and it worked well enough that the brand now stretches from Lindenhurst and Fox Lake to Wisconsin, Gladstone Park, Tuscaloosa and beyond. The original is still the most interesting one, though, because it opens at 6am and serves breakfast pizza: egg and cheese, Denver, sausage, bacon and a veggie version, in sizes up to 16 inches, with blueberry French toast and biscuits-and-gravy pies that only this location makes.
