Dead Girl's Quinceañera
About This Event
A comic thriller about three best friends investigating what really happened the night Maria vanished from her own quinceañera — a Collective World Premiere by Haitian American playwright Phanésia Pharel.
Maria was last seen at her own quince before the party shut down early over an unexplained emergency, and her three best friends — long on confidence, short on adult supervision — take the case themselves. Pharel plays it as a parody of true-crime podcasts and 'Law & Order'-style procedurals, mining real laughs out of their overfamiliar rhythms, while threading in a much darker undercurrent about the real dangers predatory men pose to girls navigating adolescence. Pharel herself grew up on a dragon fruit farm in Miami, the daughter of Haitian immigrants, and writes often about family, migration, memory, and Caribbean identity.
Worth knowing: this is a Collective World Premiere shared with Barrington Stage Company and Hartford Stage, running in the Owen Theatre through Nov 1, 2026. No single showtime to add to a calendar since performances vary; check goodmantheatre.org for the schedule and ticket prices.
